U of M faculty and students advocate for school counseling funding and state policies supporting K-12 students and school counselors at two legislative events

In the last two months, Dr. Carolyn Berger and other University of Minnesota faculty and students have engaged with legislators at Day on the Hill and testified at the MN Senate Education Finance Committee hearing.

On February 15, Dr. Berger (Minnesota School Counselor Association co-chair of the advocacy committee) and students joined MN school counselors to engage with legislators at Day on the Hill.

On March 5, Dr. Berger and Breanna Baylis, a counselor education student, testified at the MN Senate Education Finance Committee hearing. Dr. Berger talked about financial barriers to entering the school counseling program and the lack of diversity in school counseling. Breanna Baylis testified before the committee about the first-hand experiences of being a counselor education student and the importance of paid internships for counselor education students.
