My research focuses on leveraging technology to support teachers in more effectively teaching mathematics for their students with or at risk for learning disabilities. Within the area, I am particularly interested in (1) a game-based math intervention to improve whole number concepts and skills for early elementary school students and (2) a multimedia-based contextualized math intervention to improve mathematical problem-solving skills for secondary school students.
My teaching experiences include P-12 classroom and university settings. As a former teacher and para-professional, I taught middle and high school students with learning and behavioral disorders in both resource and inclusive classrooms. In higher education, I taught more than 20 undergraduate or graduate classes including Historically Black College and University (HBCU), online courses and student teaching supervision.
I provide a broad array of professional services in the field of learning disabilities and special education. I serve as the Associate Editor of Learning Disability Quarterly (LDQ) and regularly review manuscripts and conference presentation proposals. I also serve as an executive board member of Innovations of Special Education Technology division of the Council for Exceptional Children and other local and national committees.
