Kendeou, Dupuis, colleagues receive grant to improve how people learn to code

Panayiota (Pani) Kendeou, Guy Bond Chair in Reading in the Department of Educational Psychology’s psychological foundations of education program, and Danielle Dupuis, director of the Research Methodology Consulting Center, have been awarded a three-year, $1.9 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES).

Led by Vasile Rus at the University of Memphis, their project is called iCODE: Investigating and Scaffolding Students’ Code Comprehension Processes to Improve Learning, Engagement, and Retention. The researchers aim to develop an innovative educational technology that teaches coding to computer science (CS) and non-CS majors in order to improve code comprehension and learning as well as student engagement, self-efficacy, CS identity, and retention in CS programs.
