Dr. HyeJin Hwang, a President’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Educational Psychology, was interviewed recently on the podcast To the Classroom. The podcast, hosted by teacher and instructional consultant Jennifer Serravallo, aims to take research on literacy education and bring it directly to educators.

In the episode, HyeJin discusses knowledge and reading comprehension, including ways to support knowledge building, different types of knowledge, frameworks that can help educators think about comprehension, how narrative and informational texts can be used in the classroom, and more. This talk also goes into Hwang’s recently-published study on the relationships between comprehension and knowledge activation for monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual readers. This study was co-authored by Ed Psych’s Kristen McMaster and Pani Kendeou.

The episode is available online and via Apple podcasts. A transcript of the episode is also available.
