delMas receives CAUSE Lifetime Achievement Award in Statistics Education
Robert (Bob) delMas, PhD, emeritus professor in the Department of Educational Psychology’s quantitative methods in education (QME) program, recently was honored by the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education (CAUSE) with the George Cobb Lifetime Achievement Award in Statistics Education. Dr. delMas received his award from his former students and QME alumni Elizabeth (Liz) Fry, PhD, and Nicola Justice, PhD, during the Electronic Conference on Teaching Statistics (eCOTS) awards session on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
According to CAUSE, Dr. delMas was honored with this biennial award for his “lasting contributions over an extended period of time, with broad impact to the field of statistics education especially, but not limited to, the teaching and learning of college-level statistics.”
Dr. delMas was nominated by his former students, Dr. Fry, Dr. Justice, and his friend and colleague Senior Lecturer Andrew Zieffler, PhD. In his nomination, they wrote,
“Bob has contributed to the field of statistics education for over 25 years. His work and service have impacted many people, from the numerous undergraduate and graduate students he teaches, to the educators who have benefitted from the tools and assessments he has developed and shared, to the researchers and advisees who have drawn and learned from his work and mentoring.”

Dr. delMas retired from the Department of Educational Psychology in May 2022 and also was recently honored in an article by the Journal of Statistics and Data Education.
