Department of Educational Psychology

Anne Foegen named new chair of Educational Psychology

CEHD is pleased to announce that Anne Foegen has been named the new chair of the Department of Educational Psychology. Foegen is no stranger to the department, having received her PhD in educational psychology here in 1995.

“We are so excited to bring Anne back to educational psychology,” said Dean Michael C. Rodriguez. “With an exemplary career of scholarship and leadership, she has strong commitments to equity and inclusion—she led action on these commitments in her prior institution and leads innovatively with integrity. As the next leader in my own home department, she has my complete confidence.”

Foegen was most currently a professor in special education in the School of Education at Iowa State University. Her research explores the development and implementation of brief assessments in mathematics that can be used to monitor student progress spanning early numeracy (K-1) and the middle grades (6-8). Most recently, she has focused on the secondary level, particularly in algebra. She regularly consults with teachers and educational leaders across the country on matters related to secondary mathematics assessment.

As chair of the Department of Educational Psychology, among many responsibilities, Foegen will have oversight of general department functioning, uphold policies, set priorities in support of department strategic initiatives, oversee department meetings and the department budget, and guide the leadership team to pursue goals spanning from the program areas to the University system, with the support and collaboration of students, staff, and faculty.

“I am very impressed with the strength of the Educational Psychology Department and the CEHD leaders I’ve interacted with during this process,” Foegen said. “I am excited to join a talented and invested group of scholars and educators as we work together to advance the excellence of educational psychology.”

Besides her PhD, Foegen holds a BS in mathematics teaching from Winona State University and an MA in education from The Ohio State University.
