The Computing Research Association (CRA) has announced that educational psychology assistant professor Stephen Hutt is one of 25 NSF NAIRR AI Education Fellows. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) Education Fellows are faculty leaders recognized for advancing undergraduate AI education and expanding access to AI teaching resources nationwide.

Per cra.org, this cohort represents 23 states across the United States, and "reflects a broad geographic and institutional reach — spanning public and private universities, community colleges, and a wide range of higher education settings. Together, these Fellows will help expand access to high-quality AI education resources and foster a national community of practice focused on effective AI teaching."

Hutt is the co-director of the Learning Informatics Lab. His research sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, learning sciences, and cognitive science, with a focus on how AI can support equitable and adaptive learning. He leads projects on multimodal sensing (e.g., eye-tracking, webcams, physiological data) to better understand student engagement, self-regulation, and neurodiverse learning needs, with the goal of designing AI-driven technologies that are inclusive, ethical, and effective. Hutt's work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, AERDF, and other partners, and he regularly collaborates across disciplines to advance both theory and practice in human-centered AI for education.
